Pope Francis visits the U.S
Pope Francis made his visit to the United States on September 22nd, 2015 and traveled to three states throughout his six day stay. The pope arrived in Washington D.C. where he met with the President of the United States. During his visit, he spoke in front of the White House and acknowledged Barack Obama for the time he has spent to reduce air pollution and other problems. He also stated more ideas that we can use to help fix other problems such as climate change.
Pope Francis had a parade to meet the residents of Washington D.C. He had the honor of canonizing Junipero Serra, who founded many missions in California. Lastly, on his final day, he became the first pope to address Congress, which was considered a historical moment for him and the U.S.
After his visit to Washington D.C, he traveled to New York where he visited the 9/11 memorial and addressed the United Nations. At the end of his visit to New York, the pope held a mass at Madison Square Garden, where many people had the opportunity to be in the presence of his holiness.
When he departed from New York, he arrived in Philadelphia on September 26th, where he had many events planned. First, Pope Francis had a mass at Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral to open his visit. He then attended the Festival of Families where he spoke and heard music by different artists. Pope Francis visited a correctional facility to bless some prisoners because there is something everybody should be forgiven for even if it was their worst. To end his trip, he finished up his visit with The World of Families Papal Mass. Nearly 1 million people attended and waited for many hours to try and hear the pope’s mass. Pope Francis had many people in awe because of all his love and gratitude to the U.S.
