Veterans Day

Veterans Day is quickly approaching and even though many Americans celebrate this holiday, some may not know the true meaning of it. Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11 every year to acknowledge and remember the brave men and women that have fought and are still fighting for our country. This day was proclaimed a national holiday on June 1, 1954. This holiday helps us recognize how lucky we are to be American because there are heroes fighting for us.

There is a long history behind this holiday.  It was to remember the soldiers that were in World War I. World War I was a war that the United States of America fought against France, Germany, and Hungary. During this war there was a lot of fighting and loss because many lost their lives. At the end of this war there was no clear winner because there were groups of allies  that agreed to unite and fight together. From this ending of the war, the United States decided to create this holiday for the fighters in WWI.

Throughout the country there are different celebrations that occur to pay tribute to these veterans. In California there will be many parades occurring in different cities. These parades will be commemorating soldiers from the past and present for their work and for their bravery to help our country. Lastly, Veterans Day is a holiday important to the people who served and are serving in the war to protect us because they deserve to be appreciated and celebrated for their hard work and bravery.
