St. Philip’s has many helpful databases, including ABC-Clio

Do you want to have access to large amounts of information to help you and your child with a school project? The place to go is http://falconsfables.org/databases-how-to/, with five databases to help you with that project. Falcon’s Fables has the login information on the website so that students can access these great sites not only from school, but also from home, quickly and easily. There are several projects assigned by Mr. Weyermuller each school year, and there are Spanish Country of the Month projects, to name just a few, though all of the academic classes need research done. The school databases fill that need.

A great database for Social Studies is  http://databases.abc-clio.com. ABC-Clio is a site based mostly on Social Studies and has articles about topics covered in Social Studies. This site is very helpful for most of the Social Studies projects assigned throughout Junior High, from Egypt projects to Charlemagne essays.

A more all-around database is http://www.worldbookonline.com. This website is helpful for Religion, Social Studies, Science, Literature, and Spanish projects. It is based on the World Book Encyclopedia set, and has articles that cover most of the facts needed for Spanish Country of the Month articles. World Book Online does not focus totally on Social Studies, but it has biographical articles about various leaders, and is helpful for other subjects, such as Science, such as when, for example, seventh grade is working on the eye, as it has a very in-depth article about the eye. World Book Online is helpful for a large spectrum of grades, with World Book Kids (helpful for the lower grades), World Book Student, World Book Spanish (good for a challenge for those interested in practicing their Spanish more) and World Book Advanced.

Another helpful database is http://discoverer.prod.sirs.com. It has information for all of the subjects, along with other interesting items, such as “Tips from a master pumpkin carver.” SIRS Discoverer has newspaper articles, magazine articles, graphics, and more. Among other helpful attributes, it could be a great source to find Current Events for Science.

Another database very helpful for Social Studies is http://online.culturegrams.com. Culturegrams has information about different countries, which would be very helpful for both multicultural day and Spanish Country of the Month projects. Culturegrams has information about all 50 states and all 13 Canadian provinces and territories, which is helpful for the state reports done in fifth grade. Culturegrams has information on countries that, along with basic facts, also has slideshows, recipes, graphs, and other visual information to help students get a view of what a country is like outside of just the basic facts. Culturegrams has information on countries throughout the world not only from an adult’s perspective, but also has fun facts and information about the life of children.

A database for around third grade and below is www.pebblego.com. Pebblego has information on animals and the earth and space, which is helpful for understanding how the world works or learning about favorite animals. It also has biographies on famous people and a section on Social Studies. The biographies section has five short paragraphs for each of its people.
