Reader’s Corner 3-5: The Inquisitor’s Tale and Frazzled

Check out these books for 3rd through 5th graders, available in the Learning Commons! This week, Falcon’s Flyer has two highly recommended books.

This first novel is brand new to our St. Philip library! Written by Adam Gidwitz, The Inquisitor’s Tale has already won the John Newbery Award. Set in medieval France, three children become an unlikely trio of friends. Jeanne, William, and Jacob all have powers that unite them against many enemies – some being demons, dragons, knights, and monks.  Jeanne is a peasant girl who has visions of the future; William is a young monk with supernatural strength, and Jacob is a Jewish boy who can heal any wound. Together these heroes act against crafty monsters and men to save France.

This book provides an interesting play on history while remaining both educational and imaginative. Built for aspiring chapter-book readers, The Inquisitor’s Tale should certainly be on your ready-to-read list!
