Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan is a great book. It is about a young girl named Esperanza and her mom. They were forced to flee to California and ended up in a camp for migrant farm workers. Before that Esperanza lived on her grandparent’s ranch and she didn’t have to do a thing, but now that she is at the camp she has to do hard labor. Which she really isn’t ready for. Her mom is also having some problems, but hers are with finance which is brought on by the great depression. On top of all of that Esperanza’s mom gets sick and now she has to solve everything on her own because their lives depend on it.
