St. Philip and Resurrection go for the rebound off of a Resurrection shot.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team beat Resurrection, 41-25 to advance to the Sweet 16 in the CYO playoffs. The Falcons were called for two technical fouls, while Resurrection had a flagrant foul, resulting in an ejection. Over 40 fouls were called in the game, and St. Philip had two starters foul out. By the end of the game both teams were in double bonus. With 34 seconds left in the game, Resurrection committed a foul, and with the Falcons up by 16, the referees made the decision to cut the game short.

The Falcons gave up five points off of the technical fouls, the main reason that the game stayed close. St. Philip had a lead at about ten points for much of the game, but with a few minutes left Resurrection made a three but the Falcons responded with a 16-5 run to end the game.

The day before, the Falcons beat St. Therese of Avila, 53-34. The Falcons jumped out to a 9-0 lead before the starters were replaced, and went into halftime up 34-8.  The lead fell to twenty with ten minutes left, and the lead kept dwindling. What had been a 26 point lead became a ten point lead, and the starters were brought back in to make sure that the game did not get any closer. The starters were finally taken out with a few minutes left with the outcome, and an advancement to the second round, all but certain.
