Flag Football

Flag+Football

Flag football will begin on Wednesday September 24 with the Falcons facing St. Therese. Later that week, on the 26nd, the Falcons will face St. Rita in an away game at Holy Angels. On October 21, the Falcons will face Holy Family, who were CYO Champions last year with the CYO Male Athlete of the Year, Sal Spina (now a freshman on varsity football for St. John Bosco).

The Falcons are coming off of last year’s challenging season last year, in a very tough Foothill East league that made up both halves of the CYO Championship game, where Holy Family beat St. Rita.

All four of the teams that made it to the playoffs from the Foothill East league advanced to at least the Sweet 16, where St. Elizabeth lost to Holy Family on the same day (and the round) that Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (ABVM) lost. St. Rita had won the regular season meeting as they won the Foothill East, going 13-0, and earning the 3rd overall seed in the playoffs before the championship game. Holy Family came into the championship game 12-1, and had finished second in the Foothill East, and where the fourth overall seed in the playoffs. In the November 17th championship game, Holy Family dominated the game, taking a 16-0 lead into halftime on the way to a 28-0 rout.

Heat Wave Comes at Inopportune Time

The heat wave that hit Southern California last week had unfortunate timing for Falcon Sports. While Girls Varsity Volleyball could find refuge in Holy Angel Hall, the other sports teams could not avoid the heat.

Cross Country had a meet last Sunday, the 14th, at Ascot Hills on a day where the high in Los Angeles was 97° F. Even after race organizers moved the races earlier and combined the girls and boys races the Varsity race still ended near 11:00, an hour before the temperature reached the high for the day of 97° F. Stuart Serventi won the Boys Varsity and Arielle Guzman won the Girls Varsity. Will Dakan won the Novice Boys, and Anwen Wise won the Novice Girls. Cross Country also had a meet on Saturday at Hahamonga Watershed Park. Last Tuesday (the 16th) practice was cancelled, but Thursday’s practice was still held as the heat broke some.

Varsity Flag football, preparing for their opener this Wednesday (9/24),  had outdoor practice both Tuesday and Wednesday cancelled last week due to the heat.
