Hurricane Katrina: 10 Years Later

This photo shows a freeway that was almost buried after Hurricane Katrina and the result after they rebuilt the freeway.

On August 25th, 10 years ago, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast and destroyed many houses and flooded many buildings and streets some like the freeway shown in the article photos. On a day of remembrance citizens had somber ceremonies throughout the stricken states and remembered everything they had gone through 10 years ago. Today, residents are not fully recovered but they have managed to rebuild many homes and streets that were victims to the storm. One thing that the gulf coast has added, is a levee, a necessity that is used to prevent the overflow of a river, which hopefully will help if there is another storm. On the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina people mourned the loss of many friends and family during a service held during the day. One city that was hit hard was New Orleans, Louisiana where they have laid a wreath in remembrance of the people who passed away that terrifying day. Hurricane Katrina was a category 3 storm that affected many people around the gulf coast but still lived their lives positively by trying to rebuild and get back the towns and cities they had once knew.
