On January 5th, 2016, President Obama stated his executive plan on gun control. President Obama proclaimed new measures and security to make sure gun violence is limited in the United States. He directed the Bureau of Firearms and Explosives to carefully manage the situation when a person is buying a gun and for the customer to require a federal license and a full background check to see their criminal record. If the seller selling the gun does not have a valid license he or she will be penalized with five years in prison plus a $250,000 fine. If no background check is done either another penalty is issued.

President Obama is making sure his executive plan is fulfilled because he is directing the FBI to oversee the background checks to make sure that the person trying to have possession of the gun is trustworthy. He is also planning to give a $500 million investment to help mental health care for those who have mental conditions. He wants to make sure everyone stays safe with or without a gun.  

To keep our country safe,  President Obama is hiring 200 new ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives) Agents. The agents will oversee the criminal records of customers who are trying to buy guns and investigate different firearm sellers and owners to make sure this new plan is enforced and carried out. President Barack Obama is creating this plan to keep Americans safe and protected by making it more effective by using the NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) and adding more restrictions to existing laws at a secure level.
