New York Presidential Primary

New York Presidential Primary

On April 19th, 2016 the New York Primary was held for both the democrats and republicans. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were expected to win the state because she represented, as senator, for the state while Donald Trump was born and created his empire in Queens, New York.

The race for New York was supposed to be an easy victory for Hillary Clinton but Bernie Sanders did not back down, showing that he has momentum on his side. Before the New York Primary, Bernie Sanders had won more than half of the previous states, beating out Hillary Clinton. On the day of the New York Primary, Bernie Sanders lost by a smaller margin than what was expected to be to Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton won 57.7% of the votes, receiving 135 delegates, while Bernie Sanders won 42.3% of the votes, receiving 104 delegates.

On the republican side, Ted Cruz and John Kasich tried to beat Donald Trump at his own state. Ted Cruz was not a favorite in this primary because of the comment he made about New York citizens at a recent debate. Due to this faulty mistake, Ted Cruz only won 14.8% of the votes, receiving 0 delegates. John Kasich won 25.2% of the votes, receiving only 3 delegates. The reason John Kasich is still in the presidential race, is because he is hoping for a nominating convention that will go in his favor. These results mean that Donald Trump won his state by winning 60% of the votes and receiving 89 delegates.

The New York Primary showed that Hillary Clinton is still a front-runner in the race but Bernie Sanders still has the momentum and an opportunity to win the presidency. The results also show the large lead that Donald Trump has over his opponents and showing that he is the favorite to be the republican nominee.
