3-5 Summer Reading Recommendations

Jessie Morales: Books that I would recommend to the third through 5th grade would be a whole lot longer, but I was told to choose 5.

My first one is called, ‘The Island of Doctor Libris’ by Chris Grabenstein. This book is about a boy named  Billy and he is spending the summer at a cabin with a lake and an island. His parents are getting a divorce so it’s just him and his mom this summer. But this is where his parents fell in love. Can he fix their marriage? Oh and book characters happen to come to life on the island in the middle of lake. Just sayin’. Can Hercules, Robin Hood and his merry men, Tom Sawyer escape the 3 musketeers from taking them to the French King? Will Billy be happy in the end? Only one way to find out.

My second book recommendation is called ‘Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library’ another amazing story by Chris Grabenstein. This one is about a boy named Kyle Keeley. He plays all games by Lemoncello Gaming. Mr. Lemoncello is from Kyle’s town and is inviting the kids to write an essay to get a contest, to try to escape from his new high-tech library. WIll Kye get in? WIll he win? Who could tell you unless you read it! If you read and enjoy this book read ‘Mr. Lemoncello’s Library Olympics’  by Chris Grabenstein.

The third book is ‘Wonder’ by R.J. Palacio. I would wait to read this until fourth grade because it can be a bit intense, but this is just real life. This is a book about a facially deformed boy named August and his journey to his first time at a school. He will face family challenges. He will make friends, battle bullies and move on to his next year at Beecher Prep. If you read this and like it read ‘Auggie and Me’ by R.J. Palacio, a Wonder story.

My fourth recommendation to you is ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter lives with his aunt and uncle because his parents died in a car crash, or so they told him. He will adventure to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he will learn to control his magic. He will meet Ron Weasley Hermione Granger. They will adventure around Hogwarts, eat some moving candy, ride a Nimbus 2000 broomstick and play some Quidditch, as well. If you enjoy THIS title read the rest of the series.

My fifth and final recommended book to would have to be the one and only, ‘Dead End in Norvelt’  by Jack Gantos. In this book, Jack Gantos is your average twelve year old in Norvelt, Pennsylvania, 1950s. Jack suffers from a nose problem so when he is nervous, lying or scared his nose bleeds. Jack gets grounded for the WHOLE SUMMER by his mom for mowing down her corn. What will he do? He is currently work for Ms. Vulker, she writes the Obituary’s of the Town. People are trying to  sell the town and save it. Will Noret go down or go down in History? The world may never know.

Natalie Miera:

I would recommend Loot by Jude Watson to 3rd grade readers. It is about a kid and his long lost twin sister. Loot is an adventure book and is very interesting. I would also recommend A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. A Series of Unfortunate Events is a mystery book with 13 books in the series. It is about three siblings that lost their home and parents to a fire. From when they got their house burned down nothing good has happened to them. Holes by Louis Sachar is a great book for 3rd-5th graders to read. It is about a boy that was framed for a crime and sent to camp Green Lake, a camp for criminal boys. Harry Potter  by J.K Rowling is an amazing series. It is about Harry Potter who discovers that he is a wizard and goes to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry  and has lots of adventures. I would recommend Treasure Hunters by James Patterson. Treasure Hunters is about three siblings their dad got swept of their boat The Lost, and their mom got kidnapped by pirates. They are on a quest to find their mom.

Joseph Campagna:

For summer reading I would recommend long books or books in a long series like Harry Potter or the I Am Number Four series. Harry Potter is about a boy who finds out he’s a wizard and is accepted into a wizarding school. He learns and trains to be a wizard and works toward fulfilling his destiny at school with the headmaster.  He has to hold back and defeat villains in his seven years at school and then finally save the wizarding world. These books were written by J.K. Rowling and give out seven long stories of adventure.

The I Am Number Four series, Written by Pittacus Lore is about a secret race of aliens with abnormal powers sent down on a rocket when there home planet was invaded. These few survivors are on on the run from another race of aliens who want to finish what they started and get rid of the Lorik even if they need to do a full on invasion on earth Just to find these slippery individuals from beyond the stars.

Ungifted a book by Gordon Korman is a funny book about a boy that causes trouble at school and because of a mix up, a headless statue, a destroyed gym floor, and a punishment mix up ends up at a school for gifted kids. He tries to fit in but that’s hard when everyone around you has an IQ higher than the principals of both schools in ton combined and you should be grounded and celebrate when you bring home a B+. Now he has to avoid the guy in charge of education, kids at a school dance, and questions like why are you in this school.
