An interview with Mr. Y

Mr. Yniguez, good old Mr. Y, we see him every day, we all know him…or do we?  I sat down with our beloved, yet mysterious, vice principal and got to ask him some questions so we can all learn a little more about who he really is.  Here’s what I learned.

  1.  How long have you been at St. Philip’s now?
  2.  Nine Years

  1.  What do you like best about your job?
  2.  There are many things I could choose from: hot lunch, mass on Tuesdays, but what I like most is being able to work with and help the students everyday.

  1.  What do you like least about your job?
  2.  After school pickup on a hot day!
  3.  If you were principal what is the first thing you would do?
  4.  I would set my alarm 30 minutes early to give me more time to do the job.

  1.  How do you feel about shorter school days and longer summers?
  2.  Well I can certainly see the appeal but I would miss the students too much.

  1.  What advice do you have for the students?
  2.  The best advice I can give the students is not only to study school subjects, but to learn to be a good person.

  1.  Tell me something about Mrs. Ramirez that only you know.
  2.  I know the recipe to Mrs. Ramirez’s famous popcorn seasoning.

  1.  What do you like best about St. Philip’s?
  2.  The students, teachers, parents, everyone!  And the hot lunch.

  1.  Where did you grow up and go to school?
  2.  Bakersfield, CA.  I went to school at St. Francis, then Garces Memorial.  They were both Catholic schools.

  1.  What is your favorite item on the hot lunch menu?
  2.  Fresh chicken breast and white rice.

  1.  What is your favorite pizza topping?
  2.  My favorite pizza topping is chicken.

  1.  What is your favorite movie?
  2. My favorite movie of all time is Kung Fu Panda.

  1.  Do you play any musical instruments?
  2.  The only instrument I currently play is the magic piano app on my Ipad, although I used to play the guitar on Guitar Hero.

  1.  Lakers or Clippers?

A .  Lakers

  1.  Dodgers or Angels?

A . Angels

  1.  Hamburgers or Hotdogs?

A . Hamburgers (only if cheeseburger)

  1.  Chocolate or Vanilla?

A . Vanilla

  1. Dogs or Cats?

A . Dogs

  1. Detention or Suspension?

A . (Neither I prefer rehabilitation)

As you can see, Mr. Y is a good guy.  I believe he genuinely likes and cares about the students.   Although, I was a little disappointed with his lack of a position on shorter school days and longer summers.  But what are you going to do, he is the vice principal.
