6th-8th Summer Reading!
During summer vacation everyone likes to relax and have fun. What’s more relaxing and fun than reading? Now some people are bookworms, and this is perfect for them, but others, not so much. However, students have to read a certain number of books by the end of the summer for summer assignments, so, this will help.
Science Fiction:
The Testing is a novel by Joelle Charbonneau. The book takes place in the future around the Great Lakes (in Michigan), or as it is referred to in the book, Five Lakes Colony. After high school graduation Malencia Vale is hoping to get into the Testing to further her education. It isn’t until her father shares a nightmarish memory of his time in the Testing that Malencia learns of what lies ahead for her.
Legend is a novel by Marie Lu. The book starts off in the now broken form of the United States, where after the murder of her brother, June has her heart set on revenge and Day, a wanted criminal, is the number one suspect. But, things aren’t how they seem in this world.
Fantasy:
The Looking Glass War is a novel by Frank Beddor and is a spin off of the classic Alice in Wonderland book. The book begins with Alyss running away from the castle, her home, because of her crazy aunt, Queen Red. After years of being trapped in the human world Alyss becomes less and less like her past self and more of the proper lady of her time. But, when taken back to her old world Alyss must relearn her old ways to stop her Aunt’s destructive reign and claim her rightful throne.
The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens is another enjoyable fantasy novel where three orphaned children are taken to a mansion in Cambridge Falls and they discover a magical book and go back in time. A ruthless witch sends undead monsters after them to capture them and the emerald atlas. The children now have two tasks, one is to not get captured and the other is to find a way back home.
Action:
The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen is novel. A Prince has disappeared. The Royal Family has been killed. A man named Connor has taken in four orphan boys with the hope of convincing people that one of the boys is the lost prince. This is an enjoyable read with an epic plot twist at the end.
Warning: All of these books are a lot cooler than I give them credit for. Happy Reading, Falcons!
