Why Boys Should Join Drama Club

The theatre has been around for centuries. The earliest productions were actually only done by men. (No women were allowed to participate.) In today’s modern society, a lot of people think that plays are predominantly done by women, and you can’t blame them. Productions everywhere are now mostly done by only women. But the question remains why. How did a society that only allowed men to do plays turn into a society where it is mostly women? The boys at St.Philip can help turn this popular belief around by helping out and participating in Drama Club. At Drama Club, there’s plenty of opportunities to make friends, have fun, and maybe do something you love! Many of the St. Philip Drama Club members have gone on to do high school productions, and maybe even move on to professional theatre.

The main reason that boys are not involved in drama club is because they fear their reputation will be butchered. Several boys in the eighth grade who will remain anonymous even said that Drama Club can diminish your popularity. All of these beliefs about resulting in unpopularity from Drama Club are far from the truth. Drama Club is fun, and exposes you to more than you ever thought possible. Maybe you have no idea what you want to do in high school (Or in Junior High, depending what grade you’re in) Drama Club is a great option! This could possibly be your “calling in life”. Think of your favorite male actor. Think of all of his screaming fans, amazing life, and great career. Boys, that could be you! I’m sure he was also in a drama club when he was

younger, and I’m sure that he was told that he was lame for acting and couldn’t achieve his dream. But he did! Actually, most actors start off in their school’s drama club or local theatre. Boys, remember that.

In reality, all the boys present in Drama Club aren’t being picked on for participating in Drama Club and have enough friends. These rumors that spread around are just started because some people don’t like change or individuality. Sometimes people like to “swim” out of our “little school of fish” and follow their own path that may be different than the others. So, if you’re starting the rumors, stop, because people may not want to join Drama Club because of someone else’s or maybe their friend’s opinion.

Drama Club is a fun after school activity that many people enjoy doing. Why boys don’t join remains an unanswered question, and the only person who can answer that are the boys themselves. Boys, please join Drama Club!
