Cool Reads for Summer

While summer brings no school, it also brings summer reading. There are many books you can read! Here are just a few:

 

1. Wonder by R. J. Palacio

 

Wonder is a very touching story about August Pullman, who was born with a facial defect. He has been homeschooled all his life, but now he is going to 5th grade at a normal school! August is very apprehensive, and for good reason. Will anyone be able to look past his different face and befriend him, or will this be the worst school year of his life? Read to find out!

 

2. The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare

 

The Mortal Instruments is an amazing series. There’s even a movie about the first book, The City of Bones. The books follow the journey of Clarissa Fray, or Clary as she is commonly called, as she discovers a race of people called Shadowhunters. Shadowhunters are a line of people who are humans with the blood of angels. Clary is suddenly whipped into a world of demons, vampires, werewolves, and many more creatures she thought were from fairytales! A danger that was thought to be destroyed is starting to arise once more. What does this have to do with Clary, and how can she stop it?

 

3. Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

 

Steelheart is from the point of view of David Charleston. After a bright light appeared in the sky, Calamity, ordinary people began to grow powers. They were called Epics, and all turned out to be evil. One particularly powerful Epic has taken over Chicago, becoming ruler. His name is Steelheart, and has super strength, control over the elements, and is invincible. No one fights against the Epics except an elusive group called the Reckoners. David wishes to join the Reckoners and help them defeat Steelheart. He has seen something no one else has seen: Steelheart bleeding.

 

4. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

 

And Then There Were None is a murder mystery filled with many twists and turns. Ten people are all summoned to a house where they are charged for past crimes they have committed. Everyone becomes afraid when one of them dies, and there is no way off the island where they are at, due to an oncoming storm. Just when you think you know who the murderer is, something happens to change that! With a wide variety of characters, And Then There Were None will leave you guessing until the end.
