I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore
“Nine of us came here.
We look like you.
We talk like you.
We live among you.
But we are not you.
We can do things you dream of doing.
We have powers you dream of having.
We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen.
We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.
They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya. They killed them all.
I am Number Four.
I am next.”
This is how “Pittacus Lore” (AKA James Frey and Jobie Hughes) starts his book I Am Number Four. The story is about John Smith, who is Number Four. The nine that came to this planet were all given numbers, and they could only be killed in that order. John, along with his mentor Henri, must keep moving from place to place in order to keep hidden. His kind are being hunted by another race of alien called the Mogadorians. After Number Three is killed, John and Henri move into Paradise, Ohio, where things quickly change. John meets Sarah, a nice girl who he falls in love with. He also befriends Sam, who swears his father was abducted by aliens. John starts to develop his “legacies”, which are basically superpowers. I Am Number Four is a suspenseful story that will keep you wondering.
