The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick is a beautiful book that was made into a movie a few years ago. The story is of twelve year old Hugo Cabret, who manages the clocks in a train station. He lives alone and unknown, the only thing keeping him company is his late father’s automaton and his notebook on how to repair it. Hugo steals his essentials, including parts to fix the machine from the toy booth in the station. One day the old man who runs the booth catches him, which will start a chain of events that will change Hugo’s life forever. The book is filled with wonderful illustrations, giving a clear image of the characters and depicting certains events that can’t be relayed through words.
