The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 on Sunday in the Super Bowl. They were expected to win and they did not disappoint. After a slow-starting first half, Seattle pulled away in the 2nd half, going up 19-0 after a touchdown at the beginning of the 3rd Quarter. The Patriots tried to fight back, with a touchdown on their next drive to make it a 2 score game, but a defensive score by the Seahawks’ linebaker, Uchenna Nwosu, put the last nail in the coffin.
The Seahawks’ suffocating defense, affectionately known as “The Dark Side,” forced 8 punts from the Patriots, and pitched a shutout in the first half. This great defense has reminded many of the “Legion of Boom” defense of the early 2010s with players like Kam Chancellor and prime Richard Sherman. They have now joined them in NFL fame with this Super Bowl victory.
The Patriots are understandably disappointed, but they had an unexpectedly great season. They really didn’t stand a chance in this game, especially with Drake Maye’s underwhelming performance. If they can bring in more pieces in the offseason, they could find themselves in Super Bowl 61 next year.
Despite the controversy, Bad Bunny’s halftime show has been thought by many as one of the better ones of the last few years. It featured appearances by Cardi B and Pedro Pascal, and a performance from Ricky Martin. Bad Bunny played hits like Titi Me Pregunto, Nueva YoL, and DtMF. Green Day also performed at the Opening Ceremony, with a medley set list of Good Riddance, Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and American Idiot.
